Authentic Greek gyro recipe for pork or chicken. In Greece is usually made into a sandwich with pita bread, but it can also be found on a plate as an entree with all its components.
Pork gyro ingredients
5wholepork sirloin chopsdeboned
2tbspolive oilextra virgin
For the chicken gyro ingredients
6wholechicken thighsdeboned and without the skin
2 tbspolive oilextra virgin
1tbspmustard dijon preferably
The instructions are easy:
Just mix all the spices with the olive oil and the mustard, and marinate your preferred meat for at least 6 hours. That way the meat will get infused with the all the great flavors.
Grill the marinated meat or you can also cook it in the pan . If you choose to do it in the pan, just sear it first in both sides and then lower the temperature, cover with a lid and let it cook till they reach 165 degrees Fahreneit.
After the meat cooks, let it rest for 10 minutes while you get the rest of the ingredients ready, such as heat up the pita breads, cut the tomatoes and the onions.
